Stephanie Carlton Smith
Stephanie Carlton Smith studied at ‘The Royal College of Art. At her MA degree show her work was singled out as exceptional and shortly thereafter her work was brought to public attention. She has since become a multi-award winning sculptor whose work has been widely exhibited and held in prominent collections worldwide.
Stephanie expresses herself through the working and assembly of a wide palette of materials; her use of certain archetypal materials channel that dialogue which results in sculptures that trigger feelings of joy, wonder and vitality. Possessing an almost fearless pursuit of symmetry and balance, Stephanie combines materials such as ancient alabaster steeped in history and hardwood together with construction materials such as borosilicate and spruce ply. She is particularly expert in her manipulation of glass; glass is not fixed with adhesive and instead relies on the support of other materials used to maintain shape and place, transforming a cold practical substance into something more ethereal and seductive.
