MARK WELLAND
The Heliocentric Collection looks to capture the memories of the Oak tree in the landscape. The process involves making a tray and slowly building layers of resin, like strata, then carefully depositing different materials and elements in each. Gold leaf, tin leaf, charcoal and oak cubes (made from the oak tree) are incorporated into the work. In each layer, a memory, or physical artifact gathered from the landscape and tree was sealed into the work.
Mark Welland works in a variety of mediums. An award-winning artist who has created work for both public and private collections. He revels in producing work, that at its heart, has a ‘Hero’. The ‘Hero’ is a theme, style, subject matter, idea, or method that is the core of a collection. It defines the finished piece, brings focus to a subject, and creates a level of engagement that evokes a personal connection.

AFFINITY I & II
In the increasingly complex world that pervades our lives, there are ever changing factors challenging the status quo. The tension between change and staying the same is explored in much of the work that is created with the Symmetree Oak project.
The subject matters are constant while the style used to express through the pieces always creates a fresh unique direction. With its use of complementary colours, the Affinity Collection looks to interpret the qualities of light, colour and mood in our ever-changing landscape.
