JOHN LIPSHAM – Born June 1944 in Portsmouth, studied at Brighton University where he achieved a BA Honours degree in fine art and was awarded ‘The Alan Davie prize for painting’.
Inspired by his experiences and creative visualisation, John Lipsham portrays the scenes, lives and colourful characters of the dockyard’s where he worked as a young apprentice and of world war I & II England and France. His contemporary approach using both brush and palette knife explores the physicality and versatility of oil and acrylic paint. The density of pigment’s give a sense of light that radiates through the canvas, evoking the vigour and life of his subjects. Through the veil of colour achieved by continuously accumulating & scraping back paint, the figures emerge, their experiences, character’s and soul’s powerfully embodied.
John Lipsham’s work has been widely exhibited across the UK. His paintings, much sought by investors, are held in collections worldwide.
Exhibitions include: Saatchi, London, The Royal commonwealth society, Brighton museum.
